History of NCTV
The history of Newington Community Television, Inc. (NCTV) is a remarkable journey of community involvement and dedicated volunteers. Here’s a brief overview:
Founding and Early Years
- 1984: Cox Communications provides a local community access channel (Channel 32) for Newington, Rocky Hill, and Wethersfield.
- 1986: Everett Weaver and Edward Pizzella, along with former Mayor Joseph P. Doyle, establish Newington Community Television, Inc. (NCTV). They form a nonprofit corporation with the help of local volunteers.
Development and Expansion
- Late 1980’s: NCTV secures studio space in an unused building on Welles Drive North with permission from the Board of Education. Volunteers renovate the space.
- 1990: Channel 32 is replaced by town-specific community access Channel 14, which NCTV operates 24/7.
- 2000: Channel 16 is added for broadcasting public, educational and governmental programming (PEG).
Modern Era
- 2009: NCTV relocates to the lower level of Newington Town Hall.
- 2011: NCTV enters an agreement with AT&T U-Verse, making its programming available on Channel 99. Content is also accessible online.
- 2020: NCTV relocates to its current space in Newington Town Hall.
Community Impact
- NCTV airs a wide range of local programs, including government meetings, public service announcements, community events, and educational content.
- NCTV celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2016, naming the Studio for Edward Pizzella and the Control Room for Everett Weaver. NCTV will also be naming office space after long time volunteer, Patty Foley.

Getting Involved
- NCTV holds monthly meetings and welcomes public attendance. Volunteers are essential and training is provided for technical roles.
- The station airs meetings and events sponsored by local nonprofit groups without charge and provides the necessary recording equipment.
