NCTV FAQs
What is Community Access Television?
Community Access Television is a service that provides local Public, Educational, and Governmental (PEG) programs. Facilities, funding, and channel space are mandated by Connecticut statutes and the Public Utility Regulatory Authority (PURA).
Where does your programming come from?
Some programs come from local residents, who record town events, meetings and shows. Additional programming comes from other sources, including content shared by other community television networks.
How can I get a show that I recorded on the air?
Residents can record an event, fill out a program request form and submit to NCTV. It must be in a suitable digital format and be of good broadcast quality. You’ll need to fill out and submit an Application for Broadcast of Pre-Produced Program form (program request form). If you would like to use the NCTV studio, you will also need to complete a Program Application (program application). Click the hyperlinks shown in this paragraph to connect to the forms.
What equipment do I need to record a show?
You can use your cell phone or video equipment or you can borrow HD camcorders, tripods, microphones, lights, and mixers from NCTV.
How can I receive training?
NCTV volunteers can train you to use HD cameras, graphic systems, audio mixers, lighting, green screen (Chromakey), and more. Contact us by email: NCTV@NCTV.org to make arrangements.
How much does it cost to produce a show?
NCTV facilities are free for town residents to use, but production costs are the responsibility of the Producer. These costs are typically minimal, and include items like batteries, blank flash drives, etc.
How do I become a member of NCTV?
Contact us by email: NCTV@NCTV.org or come to a monthly meeting, which are typically held on the last Thursday of every month at 7:00pm.
